About this job
The OIM is in ultimate command of the vessel and is the designated Person in Charge (PIC) under IMO protocol. He/she is responsible for supporting vessel operations, for the safety of all on board personnel, the protection of the environment and the preservation of the vessel and all assets. He/she oversees station keeping, navigation and stability, supervises operations, equipment and auxiliaries and ensures compliance with operating procedures, maintenance requirements, and international maritime regulations (Coastal State, Flag State, Port State and Noble requirements). The OIM has the overriding authority and discretion to make decisions in all situations to ensure the prevention of injury to anyone onboard the vessel, and pollution from and/or damage to the vessel, another vessel or structure, property and/or the environment.
