About the job
The Radio Operator maintains the facilities of the Radio Room and is responsible for carrying out and managing Radio communications on the facility between supply vessels, helicopters, support staff and other relevant areas. Ensures receiving and transmitting of communications, using radiotelegraph or radiotelephone equipment in accordance with government regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be able to obtain appropriate Offshore certifications:
- Basic Survival Training (BST)
- Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
- Installation Safety Induction
- Regulatory Awareness
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Must have working knowledge of telecommunication systems.
- Must have working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of and compliance with terminology of helicopter service dispatcher, if applicable.
- Must have good verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate in English with staff, management, customers and vendors.
- Must possess sound reasoning skills, common sense and ability to follow directions.
- Must ensure all work is carried out in compliance with Company’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operation of the radio equipment in order to successfully communicate with ships, aircraft, offshore oil rigs Ensures compliance with terminology of helicopter service dispatcher, if applicable.
- Records all radio and satellite communications in the radio room logbook.
- Reports immediately misuse of the communication equipment.
- Maintains, inspects and tests rig communication equipment at appropriate intervals8 and ensures that any equipment problems are reported immediately In case of emergency, immediately reports to the assigned supervisor on duty for instruction.
